Azul Qiantang

Hot Opening: The Azure Qiantang

Hangzhou ups its count of high-end hotels with The Azure Qiantang from Starwood’s luxury collection. Debuting in early September, the property borrows its name from “Memories of the South,” a poem by Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi about China’s natural beauty. The hotel is right up against the Qiantang River, making for great views if you manage to visit during the famous tidal bore—an amazing feat of nature that’s best seen during the autumnal equinox, when a wave, up to 30 feet tall, rushes down the river. Head here while the opening rates are on: it’s RMB1,200 ($196) a night for a deluxe room through 2014.
