Sanctuary Ananda Takes Off in Myanmar

Luxury cruise and safari specialist Sanctuary Retreats is making its maiden voyage through Myanmar this month on a custom-built ship named the Sanctuary Ananda—meaning “extreme happiness.”

The voyage will meander down the Ayeyarwady River, from Bagan to Mandalay, with local guides offering insight into the palaces and pagodas along the way. The on-board menu will consist of fresh-from-the-market dishes, as well as a slew of western dining options and even an afternoon tea. This cruise isn’t your standard charter: it’s a boutique affair with just 21 suites on board—all of which come with luxury amenities, private balconies and air-conditioning. To celebrate the launch, Sanctuary Retreats is throwing in US$400-US$600 of onboard spending credit, depending which type of suite you book.
Three-night cruises start from $9,469 per person. Departing Nov 15, 19, 22; Dec 3, 6, 17, 20. Booking code: “OBC2014” from
