Spotlight: Princess Cruises Gets a Makeover

Started in 1965 with a cruise to Mexico, Princess Cruises later became famous when the “Pacific Princess” starred as the titular “Love Boat” in the 70s sitcom. Today, the cruise line ships 1.7 million passengers annually—with plenty of sailings in Asia. In fact this spring, the company’s Diamond Princess is unveiling a double-hitter: a $30 million drydock revamp—which will add a Japanese-style bath area and a sushi resto—and half-a-dozen new Asian itineraries. The Diamond Princess is set to sail this summer with new seven- to 10-day routes through Japan, South Korea, Russia and Taiwan, such as the “Ancient Capitals” cruise (from US$754; June 11, 29; Jul 17, Sept 18), which passes through Tokyo, Kanazawa, Maizuru, Sakaiminato, Busan (in South Korea) and Kagoshima. See you on the open seas!
